Day 18: This is getting a tiny bit ridiculous now

The government of Estonia floated a bill today which allows the government to deport immigrants from non-EU countries if they lose their job.

There are a lot of details that are murky at this point. Who does it target exactly? What about foreign nationals holding a resident permit? The statement mentioned visas and a few articles exclusively mentioned Ukrainian workforce in Estonia who is primarily engaged in construction work. (which I am guessing has taken a severe hit). Regardless this is not right. People all over the world are are raising their voices that governments should not be allowed to pass legislation under the umbrella of pandemic that violates the basic principles of the state. I think it is bound to happen unless people take a stand on it. Civil liberties are important part of our society, we cannot let them slip away.

Dr. Umar Saif is one of the pioneers in the Pakistani IT sector. He is also one of my favourite people. Here is what he posted on his facebook

The more I think about it the more I realize there is something fishy about this virus. Either we are in the early stages of a worldwide pandemic or there is selective immunity that has been in certain segments of people. Only time will tell.
